I'm very excited to announce the Kindle release of The Operator's Manual for Planet Earth - An Adventure for the Soul. As a celebration of this event and in gratitude to all of you who have been with me, we are offering it to you free.
For over thirty years before the writing of this book , I was driven by a burning desire. The desire was written on my heart as a series of questions.
“What does it mean to be a human being?” “What does it mean to truly human?” In other words, “What is the highest possibility available for all of us who live in the human dimension and share in the human experience?”
Purpose propelled me and pulled me forward; like a thread these questions determined the path of my life. They got me up in the morning, and went to bed with me at night. They inspired my study of all the great writers, philosophers, scientists and artists who came before me. And for a long time, these questions consumed me, directing all of my work and my thinking.
I awakened one day, went to my computer and began to write. It poured out of me in two weeks, almost letter perfect. I wrote it as I saw it, in story form: images, scenes, events, and characters who popped up on the page and spoke to me.
Three days into the writing, the lead figure jumped into the script. When I asked him who he was, he answered, “I am Élan”. When I asked what Élan meant, he answered with simply, “Look it up.” And I did only to learn that it was a French word for zest, enthusiasm and spirit. Indeed, Élan proved to be a spirited character.

Release the Past – Fast!
So how do you go beyond the oyster glue? How do you begin to let go of the past - quickly, easily, and with grace and dignity? How do we begin to create a new future that is not based on a reaction to the past?
Most people do one of 3 or 4 things:
- Say it doesn't exist. Go into avoidance, ignore it or sweep it under the carpet.
- Give up believing that things never change.
- Get upset, frustrated or angry when the old glue sticks.
- Rush in to fix it, change it or handle it.
In #1 and 2 above, the past does not disappear. It continues to rear its head in present situations. And it consistently shows up in various symptoms, manifestations or self-sabotaging results.
Self-sabotage usually occurs because of past beliefs or attitudes lying in the sub-conscious mind just below the surface of awareness. These sub-conscious beliefs or attitudes drive our behavior (remember Dr. George Pratt's flea on the back of the elephant)
In #3 and 4 above. Resistance creates persistence!
Try this: place your hands together in front of you as if in prayer. Then push your hands against each other as hard as you can. The resistance is obvious! Now drop your left hand. As you let go with the left hand notice that the right hand has no resistance. If you didn't stop your right hand, it would move on rapidly past the stuck point.
So there must be another way. We are not robots, programmed by our past. We are human beings and we can choose to change. So how do we do this?
Raise your sights. Look beyond the stuck moment. Create a vision that makes the situation obsolete by asking a few simple yet powerful questions:
- What would my life look like if this situation did not exist?
- How would I behave if my conscious mind was the driver of my behavior?
- What actions would I take if I (my conscious mind) were in command of myself?
- If I knew I could not fail, how would I like it to be in the future?
I always write my answers or mind map them on paper and I suggest you do the same. As you write the answers to these questions, it is imprinting the new vision more deeply in the subconscious mind. This starts the process by etching the new reality deep in the neural networks of your brain.
Then, notice if old behaviors come up again. Take a deep breath - reframe your experience (I'm in process now) and let it go!
In summation - you are not stuck with your past. Remember to remember who you are. You are a remarkable being with the power to create a future of your own choosing. There is a purpose for your life and the more you move beyond your past, the more you will fulfill that life purpose. Let the questions lead you there.
And let us know how you're doing! I love the stories you're sharing. Your lives make a real difference and I so enjoy it when you share your journey!

The Art of Inner Happiness
How do we stay centered so that we can continue to stay on purpose regardless of the changes going on around us?
How do we begin to transcend the external ebb and flow of daily life? How do we find inner stability in an environment of constant change? How do we rise above the pull of the tide or the ups and downs of our emotions so that we can achieve our goals and dreams?
The secret lies in our attention. Attention is like the flow of electrical energy through a light bulb. Or to put it another way...
Attention is energy. And where our attention goes, our energy flows.
Think of yourself as a light bulb. By focusing your attention within, you can increase the electrical current or voltage to this light.
Further, by taking our attention off the outer world and focusing our attention on our inner world, we start to rise above the ebb and flow, the ups and downs of life. Even more importantly, we start to rise above the ups and downs of our emotions.
What we focus our attention on expands.
Expand the light!
Here is a simple activity that will expand the light and raise your energy. At this energetic level, negative thoughts and feelings can't pull you or have an affect on you.
- Imagine a golden ball of light in the center of your chest at about the heart level.
- Take a deep breath and as you do imagine the breath increasing the electrical flow to the golden ball.
- With every breath, expand the inner light until it fills your chest with it's glow.
- Imagine that glow getting brighter with every breath.
- Steady your attention on the inner world while you take action in the outer world.
Remember to remember to practice this as often as you can during the day. Make a game of it! Ask yourself, "Where is my attention now?" Then, refocus and turn up your inner light.
Let your light permeate the atmosphere and notice that as you do, you begin to attract new and happier more fulfilling circumstances.
A perfect compliment to focusing your inner light is my music CD Daybreak and my centering CD, New Beginnings. One features baroque music to enhance learning and creativity, and the other includes a guided meditation to assist you in focusing your attention.

Make Your Own Path

Have you ever forgotten who you really are? Have you ever gotten into the hum drum of daily life and forgotten to rise above this plane to capture the view from above?
Have you ever hit an obstacle and had life suddenly become all about that obstacle?
Have you ever gotten stopped by any block or barrier and forgotten to take the eagle's view?
Most of us have, at one time or another, gone through amnesia of this kind forgetting who we are and why we're here. Actually, it's more likely that most of us have gone through moments of awakening and long periods of amnesia!
I don't know about you, but I live with the mantra: Remember to remember who you are! These words remind me that I am a daughter of the great universe and that I am bound on a mighty adventure! This reminder always fuels my fire, ignites my passion and keeps my energy high and focused!
Maybe it's time to expand that conversation. Maybe it's time for all of us to remind each other and help each other awaken from the dream.
Remember to remember who we really are! Your life is a journey of epic proportions, an adventure designed for you and you alone and only you can live it! It can be likened to Homer's incredible Odyssey or even Magellan's great voyage. The blocks, the obstacles, the challenges along the way are there to support you. Every incident we run into, every person we meet, every situation we encounter is put in our path to help reveal who we really are.
And here is the miracle of it all. It is a plan devised by the great scheme of things to fulfill your life purpose, goals and dreams while at the same time clearing your sub-conscious mental wanderings. It is a schemata of breadth and depth that takes into account every single thought, longing, inspiration, judgment, attitude, attraction and repulsion.
And out of this combination of energetic forces it drafted for you the perfect life. It is a life that supports you in fulfilling your life's purpose while becoming a more authentic compassionate human being.
Observe the signs and signals. For although there is no trail to show you where to go and although you will have to make your own path, swath your own route, and design your own destiny. There are markers and signposts left by those who went before.
Trust life! Enjoy the journey! Listen to the whisperings of the universe! And remember that your life is a divine adventure designed for you alone!
The Hero’s Call
Life is not 'ho hum'. It is not to be lived out on the anvil of meaninglessness one day after another.
Life has a purpose. Our lives have a purpose! Remember to remember who you are.
You are special. You are the main character in a great adventure. You are the hero or heroine and the story teller of your own odyssey. The plot is yours, the script is yours and the tests and trials belong to you alone. It is a journey of epic proportions and it begins with 'the call'.
Have you heard the call? It comes as a whisper within, a longing to do or be something more than you have been up until that point. It is tantalizing and exciting.
Yet at the same time it can be intimidating and a bit overwhelming because we have to let go of the shore. We have to release the safe and comfortable, the old habits that have become our familiar friends, to discover the possible you that awaits beyond the horizon. Or, as Joseph Campbell once said, "We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."
The call is your call and it is heard by only you. It is the call to do something that no one else can or will do. In the American Indian tradition it is the call to contribute your gifts and talents to the tribe for the good of all.
- Listen to the inner voice, the still small whisper.
- Remember that life happens as you live it
- Create your destiny one day at a time
- Remember that fear is:
- False
- Evidence
- Appearing
- Real
Fill Your Own Tank!
Who fuels your inspiration? Who lights your fire every morning and gets you going? Who knows your purpose and your passion?
It's you and you alone who hold the key to your motivation and inspiration. The success and satisfaction we seek in our lives is in our own hands.
No one else can fuel your fire. No one else can get you inspired and charged up in the morning. Know one else knows your life purpose or the thing that drives your passion. You are the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega of your own drive, inspiration, motivation, get up and go...
That is not to say that you are alone. We are all connected to something greater than ourselves. Call it God, call it Spirit, or Universal Mind. You can even call it the Great Mystery or, as Quantum physicist David Bohm calls it, the Implicate Order.
In any case, regardless of the name you give it, it is the deeper cause, the undivided wholeness, behind the seemingly random nature of all life. It is the source beneath the surface or, as the American Indians called it, the web that connects all living things to one another.
We are born connected. And we remain connected throughout our lives. So let's go back to the original question - Who fuels your inspiration or lights your fire? Of course you do... yet the caveat is that you are not alone!
Ask for help. Ask for guidance and inspiration. Ask for answers and solutions to your problems. Ask to get up in the morning fully charged, inspired and positive ready to embrace the day! As you send out your internal request, believe that the Implicate Order received your desire or intention and is acting on it now.
- At night as you are lying in bed just before falling asleep, visualize yourself getting up in the morning full of energy and ready to embrace your day.
- Talk to your mind and tell it that you will sleep deeply and rise with vigor and energy.
- Then in the morning if your first thought is a 'tired thought' delete it. And replace it with a vigorous thought of "Yea, another day!"
Then get up and use the 'act as if ' principle of Aristotle. Act as if it is already done! Get up and feel charged up with energy. Have a great day. You deserve it!
Developing the Olympiad Mind Set
I am on the road again. I just arrived in Melbourne and I'm filled with the crazed Olympic fever. Every chance I get I search out the nearest TV only to sit riveted to the screen watching our world's finest athletes compete in stellar form.
For as long as I can remember, the games have captured my imagination. I'm not alone in this as the Olympics have long inspired the imagination of millions of other people just like me.
I watched the opening evening in Honolulu before leaving for Australia. And as the music crescendoed and the screen flashed the words, London 2012, I thought of the years leading up to this night. For the participating athletes, everything that got them to this moment wasn't done in the lights with the hoopla and magic that I was watching on the screen.
The years prior to the Summer Olympics were written in the muscles and sinews, the hearts and minds of the men and women that made it to the event. The mental, emotional, physical and spiritual discipline that these Olympiads exhibited over the years opened the door for their entrance to the coming ten days.
These men and women represent the best and finest in personal mastery. They stand as examples of the possibility that our lives hold if are willing to stay on our purpose, develop our talents and strive to realize our true potential in any given arena.
You and I may not be athletes. But we are here on Earth for a reason. We were each given gifts and talents and we have a choice as to how much we develop those talents.
The athletic training is multidimensional: body, mind and soul. But is it any less for ourselves? To be successful, our level of mastery must include the core training for our brain, mental and physical stamina as well as inspired action.
Successful people are willing to do what others of lesser success were unwilling to do. Successful people are willing to go what others of lesser success were unwilling to go. Successful people are willing to give what others of lesser success were unwilling to give. They are willing to get up earlier, work longer and push themselves harder. They are willing to give more of themselves to the game, whatever their 'game' may be.
And maybe that is the fascination so many of us hold with the Olympics. It represents our highest and finest hopes for ourselves. It represents what we know at some subliminal level that we're capable of if we give it all we have. It is this Olympiad Spirit that is available in each of us that I honor today.
Take a Stand for You!
Take a stand for a vision of who you intend to be, even in the face of no physical evidence... until the evidence shows up!
Don't wait for others to show you who are. Don't wait for circumstances to dictate or define you! Define yourself!
This is not grand-standing. It is not wishing or wanting. This is the heart and soul of be-coming. I am speaking about living life as a creative act! At its worst, it's living with paradox on the creative edge of life... At its best, it's exhilarating, inspiring, heady and wonder-ful (as in 'full of wonder').
Human beings are deciding beings. Decide who you intend to be and how you want your life to be. Then, create yourself and your life in the image you envision in your mind and heart!
Ask yourself these three questions:
- Who do I intend to be? - In other words, who do you wish to be. But turn that wish into an intention.
- What qualities do I intend to exhibit in my life and in relationship with others? These might be things such as kindness, compassion, resiliency, optimism, enthusiasm and so on.
- What is my purpose and what will my life look like when I am fulfilling my purpose? (Envision what you will be doing and how you will be doing it.)
