Lynne and I had a wonderful meeting with Patricia Hao, the Director of HR and Jennifer Sims, the
training manager at Hawaii State Federal Credit Union in Honolulu this morning. I have been doing consulting and training with HSFCU for 31/2 years now and we met to schedule the Train the Trainer program for 2009.
The good news is that not only did they out preform on their goals for the year, but they also opened two new branches at the same time. Welcome on board to the people at the new HSFCU Maui Branch and the HSFCU Kaimuki Branch. You have joined a great company!
What a special feeling it is to support a team through an expansion while the world around them seems to be going through contraction! YEAH to you everyone at HSFCU… Great accolades to the entire team!!
Not only that, I had an opportunity to do a 'walk about' (as the Aussies say). The Senior Management Team is 'on it' using the Elan training skills to bond, mentor and up-skill their team members.
One of the secrets of their incredible expansion was something called the Round Robin Management Meeting Format (RRMM)that we teach to all executives. It keeps everyone alive and alert looking for lessons to learn!! Tune in to my next blog and I'll give a full description of how to run a RRMM for yourself and your team.
A Hui Ho!

I just joined the Tweeter universe & got an incredible flash from my friend Russ. He went to visit a school & found our Spectrum of Bullying Poster up in the library. He sent a pic of it.
That's from our non-profit contribution world known as the World Youth Network. Sent from my iphone.
The school was Highlands Intermediate. Come join me on Tweeter at trinhunt.
Lynne and I joined Lovell and Rolinda Harris for lunch at Kincaids in Honolulu on Sunday.
Lovell and
Rolinda were among the first students in our Academy Elan Training program and Lovell went on to
mentor under me for nearly ten years. Lovell is one of the finest drug and alcohol counselors in the nation as well as one of our trainers at Elan. We have become close friends and we often co-facilitate student assemblies when doing anti-bulling programs for the schools.
Rolinda was reflecting on P to the seventh power or 'P7' of Leadership' from The Roadmap to Success. In quick hyper-text review these are, Purpose and Passion, Principles and Practices, People and Partnerships, and Perseverance.
But the thing that came out of the conversation were the P's for our time. With the fluctuations in the market, the downsizing in so many corporations, and the changes everywhere, its a good time to review, rethink, and purge. So the 8th P is Purge and the 9th is Prepare. Use this time to look at every aspect of your life, purge out the old and prepare for the new.
Following is our Purge check list as per Lovell and our discussion.
Once you've Purged, then Prepare. Lay a fresh and solid foundation for the future. In your personal life, follow your passion. Do some of the things you've always longed to do but been to busy for. In business, do the things you've been intending to do to upgrade, revamp and renew your work.
I've found this time to be re-invigorating. I'm doing more photography than usual, which is my personal passion. This was done in my garden (notice the bee in the flower).
And I'm really ecstatic because I'm updating my study of neurology, quantum physics and cognitive psychology as it pertains to business and coaching through the maelstrom.
Remember to remember, Purge and Prepare. The next stage is on its way!!
Much Aloha for now. Trin
Last time we said that challenge is the mother of change! Now its time to retrofit our brains
for the high force financial winds of these times.
Stress side slams our beautiful brain. When this happens, our prefrontal cortex, the planner and thinker part of our brain (in red), loses control and our emotional limbic system takes over sending us into a downward spiral of negative self-talk.
But what can we do? After all, we have no power over the events in the world.
But we do have power over at least one thing. We have power over where we put our attention. And attention changes everything.
Where you put your attention is where you get the result or in the words of the ancient huna teaching,
WHERE THE ATTENTION GOES – THE ENERGY FLOWS!
Here's one thing you can do every time you start obsessing. STOP! If you're ruminating on something negative, re-deploy your attention to something positive. I was obsessing on the condition of my yard the other day and suddenly realized that I needed to re-deploy my attention. I had to laugh as I thanked the powers that be that I had a yard to obsess on!!
So it's a 3 step process:
1.) Pay attention to your attention!
2.) Catch yourself in the act of reacting!
3.) Re-deploy your attention.Replace the negative with a positive or seek a solution.
You may have to use this technique 100 times a day right now, but it's worth it. Think of Captain Sullenberger and the miracle that happened because he kept his cool under pressure.
Remember to remember, ATTENTION CHANGES EVERYTHING! Do the 3 step process as consistently as possible and let me know how its working for you.
In spite of the challenges all around us, I'm excited about the year. The upside of what we're going through with the economy is that we have an opportunity to reinvent ourselves. We all have to make changes in order to ride the financial waves that are crashing all around us right now.
As a coach and leadership trainer this will be our focus for the coming months. We'll talk about using challenges to leverage change.
Even if your goal right now is to enhance your skills, make a career change, or diversify your business don't sacrifice your dreams. Put them on hold in the real world if you have to, but don't put them on hold in your heart. Remember a dream nurtures the soul and gets you up in the morning.
Here are 3 keys to keep your dream alive in challenging times.
1.) Get it out of your head. Write the dream on paper. Write it in the present tense with you in it. i.e. I see
myself speaking in front of a large audience. or I have become the most sought after personal trainer in
Hawaii.
2.) Write a list or make a mind map of everything you have to do to have the dream happen in real time.
3.) Keep the vision and the list where you can see it. (I have mine on the bathroom mirror.)
Then go about the business of doing what is right in front of you and doing it well. If you have another job, do one or two things on your list each week. If your vision and dream is linked to what you're doing now, then go for it; do as many things as you can. Both of these will help you build the momentum necessary to move you forward.
A few months ago I found a tattered faded sticky note with my 5 big dreams on them. It was written over twenty years ago and all of them had been accomplished but one. The one is a life time goal and its still in process.
More to come!
By the way… Roadmap to Success is available through Amazon and it's doing great. Ask for it by my name. Make sure you have the D. in front of Trinidad Hunt
Dear friends, I really apologize for the one month delay in getting back after the beautiful white Christmas holiday spent in Canada and Oregon. Upon my return we were joined by clients arriving from Australia (Trish Doyle and Gaylia Mitcham on the left), Mexico and Canada and before I realized it, January had disappeared!!
One of my great joys about living on the Big Island of Hawaii is that every person that arrives on island from anywhere in the world MUST see the volcanoes. So my business partner, Lynne Truair, and I have trekked up to Hawaii's active volcano (Halemaumau) and down into the rain forests. Then there were the whales! From my balcony we could see pods of dolphins and whales spouting and breaching!
At the moment I'm in the middle of a two week personal coaching session with a young woman, Teleah Mitcham (right).
She is heading back from Whistler, Canada to finish her 5th year of school in Brisbane. Majoring in business law, Teleah chose to do some personal growth work before launching into her final year of school.
It's a very exciting time for us at Elan! In spite of the challenges our nation and the world is facing, we are thankful for the many blessings of this work. Expansion is happening in our corporate leadership programs and the work with our children both nationally and internationally.
Stay posted… a series of leadership tips are coming soon!
